Beer Image Beer Name: Chimay Première (Red)
Brewer Name: Bières de Chimay
Style: Abbey Dubbel
Beer Description: * Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously.

The official description is actually pretty spot on for this beer. I'm not sure why it took me this long to try a Chimay, but it was about what I expected.

The ales brewed by the trappist breweries of Belgium have a unique taste unlike any of the beers and ales brewed in the U.S.A that I've sampled. They may be different and take some getting used to, but they grow on you.

In my opinion, Chimay Premiere is a little tamer than Chimay Grande Reserve -- maybe a little more fruity, a little less bitter, and a more subdued malt flavor. I haven't decided which I like best.
