Beer Image Beer Name: Ommegang Three Philosophers Quadrupel
Brewer Name: Brewery Ommegang
Style: Quadrupel
Beer Description: * The essence of wonder is a unique and masterful blend of strong malty ale and authentic Belgian Kriek. Our philosophers deduce that this powerful marriage of cherries, roasted malts, and dark chocolate will only achieve more wisdom and coherence as it broods in the dark recesses of your cellar.

Very malty and "wine-like"... with some cherry lambic flavor. It's flavorful but it doesn't taste much like a beer really for what it's worth. I did enjoy it though, despite the fact that it's not a style I really care for.

I sat and stared at the floor for 20 minutes while deciding what rating to give this beer. Seven or eight? Eight or seven? Hardcore or soft core? Wait, that is a different debate...

Initially, I detected bananas which is what I always detect in a Belgium. But after reading the bottle I did notice the cherries. The alcohol is noticeable, but not negative. The beer also has an above average astringent quality. I did not find the strong malt character which was advertised. What a perplexing beer. I like it and would buy more, but I cannot articulate why.

Right for opening the bottle you get a sweet red wine scent. It almost tastes like an aged cider. Amber and tart, great for desert, but not a night of drinking.

Pours dark amber brown with a thick tan head. Bartender in DC area recommended and I am forever graterful. Sweet, dark cherry, candy sugar with some dark fruit, with some bitterness. Beautiful and delicious. Also note that it ages well, and gets better as it does so.

Oh how i love some Belgian beer makers. Beer had a very nice deep red color. The aroma was very strong...almost like a stout. Very malty taste that finished nicely with hints of cherry.
