Beer Image Beer Name: Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron
Brewer Name: Dogfish Head Brewery
Style: American Strong Ale
Beer Description: * An unfiltered, unfettered, unprecedented brown ale aged in handmade wooden brewing vessels. The caramel and vanilla complexity unique to this beer comes from the exotic Paraguayan Palo Santo wood from which these tanks were crafted. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the Palo Santo wood.

Dogfish Head surprises you again! It knocks you on your ass with a great and complex flavor. Oh yeah, and watch out for the alcohol in this one because it is hidden perfectly by the roasty, malty, and Palo Santo wood!

I have to agree with the other raters. This beer is complex. Very complex but not unpleasent at all. A deep dark beer with a nice head. I like the woody flavors in the beer.

One of the darkest beers I have tried. Intense flavor that tasted unlike anything I have had before. Alcohol is very noticeable giving the beer a hot taste. Heavy body. Smelled of roses. Reminded me of the expedition stout only with more alcohol. Despite the flavor of alcohol it is still smooth, unlike the Goose Island Bourbon County. Very very complex beer.

Dogfish Head says its a brown ale, but it poured almost black. Thick, tan foamy head. Incredibly malty and a strong taste of alcohol. You can taste the 12%. The vanilla flavor is pretty strong in the beginning but fades quickly with a chocolaty aftertaste.

Side Note: Thanks to my wife for informing me how to better taste the vanilla.

Complex is the best way to describe this malty brew. It's very different and the taste seemed to change as I went through the glass but it's never really overpowering. Not really even a style I think I'd like but this is very tasty.
